inTRODUCTIONThe inaugural UNIS International Festival of Performing Arts is a seven-day celebration of our community’s vibrant artistry, cultural diversity, and collaborative spirit. Throughout the week, plays will be presented in six different languages, student-devised scenes and classical dramas will performed for a variety of audiences, and the Junior School Storybook Parade will travel from the first floor to the top of the building. Art will be everywhere: people will be singing arias and show tunes, newly formed musical groups and dance troupes will premier their work, individual storytellers will share their tales with their middle school peers, and performance pop-ups will appear in hallways, classrooms, courtyards, stairwells, and traditional theatre spaces.
The week will begin with the Tutorial House Theatre Ensemble traveling to New York University to perform scenes from their original play, “Picture Justice, a play about Mass Incarceration in the United States” and it will end with a three-day run of the musical “RENT” at the Sylvia Howard Furman Theatre. What better way to embrace our unique place in the world than to share our songs and our stories together? Imagination and creativity will be on full display this week at UNIS, we look forward to seeing you at the shows! |
